Christmas is coming and as a very exciting seasonal treat, Colchester Castle is opening its doors for FREE for a special Christmas Open Evening this week.
The annual Colchester Castle Christmas Open Evening will take place on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 from 3pm - 8.30pm.
Come and soak up the Christmas atmosphere with Christmas carols, entertainment and an opportunity to meet Santa. Entry to the Castle is free, if you want to meet Santa and receive a gift there is a small £5 charge.
Councillor Cllr Michelle Burrows, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Heritage, said: “Christmas is a magical time at Colchester Castle. It has a charming festive ambience at this time of the year making it a great choice to take the family over the holidays.
“The annual free open evening is a particularly exciting event – where everyone can have the opportunity to visit Colchester’s historic landmark for FREE! The whole Castle is buzzing with yuletide spirit – it’s one not to be missed!”
You’ll also get the chance to see stunning exhibition Gladiators: A Day at the Roman Games before it closes on the 14 January, a must see for anyone interested in Roman history and Colchester’s past. Visitors will head back 2,000 years into the world of the Roman Games and the Gladiatorial Arena in Roman Colchester. Packed with artefacts from Colchester Museums’ collections, as well as loans from other museums including the British Museum and interactive exhibits its simply breathtaking!
