Day of Action makes a difference in Greenstead

PUBLISHED: 13 October 2023

Greenstead residents have seen a significant improvement in their area after a recent community clear up and the securing of an ASB hotspot.

The activities, which formed part of a Day of Action funded by Home Office Safer Streets Round 4 funding, saw the council’s local neighbourhood team strimming overgrown brambles and clearing over 10 bags of rubbish from the alleyway between Forest Road and St Andrews Avenue, working with the Colchester Litter Pickers.

The Colchester Litter Pickers were later presented with two new trolleys for future litter picking events.

In addition, the neighbourhood team secured an ASB hotspot on Greenstead Road by working with the property owner, undertook joint patrols with PCSOs, and repaired three street nameplates. A self-defence workshop was also held at Greenstead Community Centre on the 29th and 30th of September for local teenagers.

Mobile CCTV signs and equipment have also been deployed to ASB hotspots in the area.

Cllr Natalie Sommers, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “I’m delighted to see the positive impact that the Day of Action has had on the Greenstead area. It's clear that residents are taking pride in their community and working together to make it a better place to live and work.

“I’m particularly grateful to the Colchester Litter Pickers for their hard work in keeping our streets clean, and to the Greenstead Community Centre for providing a valuable space for the community to come together. I'm also pleased to see that we've been able to secure an ASB hotspot and repair street nameplates. These may seem like small things, but they make a big difference to the quality of life for local residents.

"This Day of Action is a great example of how the Safer Streets funding is being used to make a real difference to local communities. By working together with our partners and residents, we are able to tackle crime and ASB, and make our streets safer and more welcoming for everyone."
