Colchester Castle is thrilled to announce bookings are now open for this year's magical Christmas at the Castle events.
Throughout December, families and friends are invited to immerse themselves in the joyous atmosphere of Christmas at Colchester Castle, where cherished traditions meet historical wonders. This unique experience promises to delight visitors of all ages with its array of festive activities.
This year’s celebrations offer an unforgettable evening with Father Christmas and friends, a visit to the magical Castle Grotto, this year with new slots exclusively for nursery groups and a captivating free Christmas Open Evening, all offering the chance to witness the Castle beautifully adorned for the festive season. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the blockbuster family exhibition, Gladiators: A Day at the Roman Games, taking you back 2,000 years into Colchester’s history.
For those seeking an extra dose of holiday magic, Father Christmas’ Grotto is the perfect destination. Step inside a world of enchantment where children receive a gift and time with Father Christmas. Let imaginations run wild as they encounter the Castle’s elves and experience the joy of the season. Individual and groups slots are available on selected dates from the 2 December – 23 December.
For a longer experience the Evening with Father Christmas and Friends on the 22 December enables families to get together and experience the joy of festive crafts, interactive games, and revel in the warmth of the holiday spirit with a digital photo to remember. All you need to do is bring your Christmas wishes and capture unforgettable moments with Father Christmas!
Lastly the popular annual free Christmas Open Evening will take place on Wednesday 6 December from 3-8.30pm. Visitors will have an exclusive opportunity to explore the Castle in all its festive glory. Admire the decorations that transform this historic landmark into a winter wonderland and wonder at the many nationally important treasures housed in the Castle, including new exhibition Gladiators: A Day at the Roman Games. Enjoy live music and seasonal refreshments.
