Colchester Town Hall and Colchester Castle will be lit blue on Wednesday, 5 July to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
The landmark buildings will be joined by the Mercury Theatre, to honour the dedication and hard work of NHS staff over the past 75 years. The blue light is a symbol of the NHS, and the three sites will be lit up in blue for the evening to show appreciation for the work of the NHS past and present.
Cllr David King, leader of Colchester City Council, said: "We are proud to be lighting Colchester Town Hall and Colchester Castle blue, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
“The NHS has made huge differences for the better in the lives of many, with free and quality care for all, from the founding days through to the pandemic and beyond – as well as a providing a vital, global contribution to health care, medicine and technology.
“Lighting up Colchester Town Hall is our way of saying a huge ‘thank you’ to all NHS staff, past and present. We are indebted to them all for their dedication and care and proud to show our support.”
The lighting of Colchester Town Hall and Colchester Castle is just one of many events taking place across the UK to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the NHS. Other events include public displays, Park Runs, fundraising events and a special service for NHS staff, volunteers and partners at Westminster Abbey.
