Colchester’s Year of Celebration is already in full swing with a packed programme of events planned for the year. Businesses, community groups and individuals from across the Colchester City area are getting behind the festivities including globally renowned local company, Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree – holders of a Royal Warrant and producers of James Bond’s favourite preserve, the famous ‘Little Scarlet’ strawberry jam.
The village of Tiptree is synonymous with jam making, an industry with its roots in the 1700s. With an illustrious past and today a thriving modern international business, Wilkin and Sons is still proudly based in Tiptree employing local people. The onsite museum, shop and tearoom are a mecca for visitors from all over the world wanting to see first-hand where the delicious range of jams, preserves and drinks hail from.
To mark Colchester’s modern city status, a decorative ‘Year of Celebration’ logo will feature on a range of Tiptree products, exclusively available to purchase at Colchester’s Visitor Information Centre, which is situated within Hollytrees Museum, in Castle Park.
These include best sellers Little Scarlet, Lemon Curd and Tiptree’s traditional Marmalade, plus many more.
Councillor Michelle Burrows, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Heritage said: “We are delighted that with Tiptree’s huge global presence, they are choosing to honour the city with their support in this way. We are sure that they will fly off the shelves and many residents and visitors will soon be taking home a slice of Colchester’s Year of Celebration. Eat them or keep them as a memento. Either way, I’m sure they will be very popular!”
Scott Goodfellow, Joint MD, Wilkin & Sons, Tiptree said: “We are thrilled that our range of products will be decorated with these special stickers to mark Colchester’s Year of Celebration.”
