New Residents’ Panel for Colchester

PUBLISHED: 29 November 2022

Residents of Colchester City are invited to express their interest in participating in a new Residents’ Panel, to launch in January 2023.

The Panel will provide people who live in the city with ongoing opportunities to shape its future, by acting as a sounding board for new initiatives. Participants will also be encouraged to put forward ideas for improving their local area and propose solutions.

Results from panel surveys will be fed back to decision-makers within Colchester City Council, to assist them when shaping projects and making final decisions.

Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “We promised to engage our residents, stakeholders and partners as we set about making the most of the opportunities that city status brings. The Residents’ Panel will help give a voice to members of our community of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. They will help us to understand what our residents feel about the services we provide, the changes we and others are making, and the future we hope to build.

“It’s an opportunity to have an active role in local decision making – to help create a place where everyone feels proud to live. We are searching for dedicated and enthusiastic panel members who want to help create an inclusive and innovative city, which meets the needs of all our residents, both now and in the future.”

The Panel is open to all residents in Colchester, aged 18 and over. Panel members are not required to have any prior knowledge or expertise to join, and members of minority groups are encouraged.

The Panel will be launched in the New Year and until then residents are encouraged to get in touch, with no obligation, to find out more or express an interest in being alerted when the application process is open.
