Colchester Borough Council is welcoming constructive feedback and advice by taking part in a Local Government Association (LGA) peer challenge.
The LGA peer challenge process provides independent and external improvement support and challenge through a peer review, conducted by a team of councillors and senior officers from other local authorities.
Colchester Borough Council’s peer challenge will take place in September 2022 and will be led by a group of public sector experts and leaders, drawing from their own experiences in other local authorities, both from a political and operational perspective.
It will focus on the council’s performance, governance, relationships and financial resilience, and will give the council an opportunity to discuss its strengths, as well as areas for improvement.
Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “The peer challenge process is a great opportunity for us to get an external perspective – fresh eyes and critical friends – not only on our strengths, but most importantly, areas where we can improve and opportunities that we can build on.
“Our residents want to live in clean and safe neighbourhoods, have somewhere to turn when times are tough, and to be proud to call Colchester their home. As a responsible local authority in tough economic times, the council needs to be able to use its resources well and serve its residents as best it can. We have made great progress on delivering on these but know there is a lot still to do, and I am sure the peer challenge will help us with constructive feedback on how we can deliver these aims.”
Pam Donnelly, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Council, added: “Despite being a high-performing and ambitious organisation, as the council recovers from the pandemic, we need to reset and realign to support residents even more effectively. We look forward to the support the peer challenge will provide us, to do this."
The full peer challenge report will be published on the council’s website after their onsite visit.
The review findings will enable the council to reflect on its delivery and forward thinking, the things it does well, and opportunities to improve.
