On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June, Colchester Sports Park will be offering a fun-filled weekend of activities for all the family, to celebrate both the extra-long bank holiday weekend and the Grand Depart of the Women’s Tour, which takes place from Colchester Sports Park on Monday 6 June.
On Saturday 4 June, the Festival of Fun will kick off with a range of different cycling sessions throughout the day in conjunction with British Cycling. This will include sessions for competent riders on the state-of-the-art pump track, inclusive cycling with adaptive bikes for people with disabilities, balance bike sessions for little ones in the ‘learn to ride’ area and a female only session on the 1-mile cycle track in honour of the Women’s Tour. There’ll also be the chance to try out cutting-edge cycling equipment in the Velo studio, with people who haven’t used the studio before able to join a session for free.
On Sunday 5 June, there’ll be a family fun day where people will be able to try out the pump track, 1-mile cycle track, state of the art Activa Gym and fitness classes from just £1 per activity. There’ll also be football, rugby, cricket, and badminton demonstrations, as well as the chance to try out bikes/e-bikes and to take part in mini football tournaments. People will also be able to explore 76-acre open spaces surrounding the Sports Park, bounce on inflatables, get their faces painted and enjoy craft coffee from Paddy and Scott’s Coffee Shop.
Then, on Monday 6 June, the Women’s Tour, the biggest all-female cycle race in the world, sets off from Colchester Sports Park. With over 100 of the world’s best riders setting off along a 142 km route people can head down to the Sports Park to meet the teams, cheer on the riders, and enjoy a day of cycling and sports related fun.

With loads of different activities for all ages, it’s a great way to show people everything our newest sports facility in the borough has to offer, as well as encouraging people to get active. It promises to be a brilliant weekend.”
