St. Fillans Care Home has been crowned champion of the first Colchester Street Tag care home leader board.
Street Tag is a free, interactive app that turns physical activity into a game by converting walking, running, and cycling into Street Tag points (tags), which are tallied to either the school, community, or the new care home leader board.
St. Fillans Care Home in St. John’s, Colchester was named as the first Street Tag care home leader board winner, with an enormous 3,063,370 points collected. This was a fantastic effort, which saw residents, staff and their families all encouraged to get active.
The care home was presented with a trophy, donated by the FANS network, which they will now display proudly for the next 14 weeks.
Councillor Beverley Oxford, Portfolio Holder for Communities said: “Congratulations to St. Fillans care home for their brilliant performance in the first care home leader board. It’s wonderful to hear what a positive effect it has had on residents, inspiring them to be more active and boosting their morale.
“We were pleased to hear that Street Tag was motivating staff, residents and their families to walk further and increase their daily movement. It is a key priority for us to create opportunities like this to foster healthy and active communities.”
Samantha Farrow, Lifestyle Coordinator and St. Fillans Care Home said: “Street tag had been fantastic way for residents to gain simple exercise, this has enhanced the resident’s wellbeing daily.”
A St. Fillans Resident added: “I never knew what Street Tag was until I started playing it and now, I really enjoy it! It brings me exercise daily. I am glad we are winners.”
The app has been brought to Colchester by a partnership between Colchester Borough Council and funders the Essex Local Delivery Pilot.
The care home leader board has now been reset today and will run again for the next 14 weeks.
