Colchester Museums, comprising the historic Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum, and the Natural History Museum, is excited to announce the launch of a new online booking system. This new service has been designed to simplify the ticketing process and enhance the visitor experience, providing seamless access to Colchester’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Visitors can now view available dates to visit the museums, and purchase museum admission in advance through www.colchester.cimuseums.org.uk. This user-friendly system not only supports ticket sales but also allows bookings for annual passes and a full calendar of family-friendly events throughout the year, including guided tours of the Castle.
Colchester Castle, a key attraction within Colchester Museums, stands as one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in England. Built on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius, Colchester Castle offers guests an immersive journey through nearly 2,000 years of history, from the Iron Age through the Roman occupation and beyond. The new online booking system will make it easier than ever for visitors to secure a spot to visit and dive into the captivating past of Britain’s oldest recorded town.
Hollytrees Museum sits in a beautifully preserved Georgian townhouse that offers a fascinating look into the lives of the people who lived and worked in Colchester over the past three hundred years. With exhibits that include household objects, toys, and costumes, Hollytrees provides an intimate glimpse into the town’s social history and daily life from the 18th century onward. The museum’s charming period rooms and interactive displays make it a favourite for families and history enthusiasts alike.
The Natural History Museum is also housed in a stunning building, this time the former All Saints Church and invites visitors to explore the natural world of Essex. With engaging exhibits on local wildlife, geology, and ecosystems, the museum showcases the diverse flora, fauna, and fossils that define the region. Highlights include hands-on activities for children and collections that illustrate how Colchester’s natural landscape has evolved over millions of years, making it a perfect destination for curious minds of all ages. This is a free to visit museum.
