Following last year’s consultation on the future of Castle Park’s playground, Colchester City Council is excited to announce the next stage of the refurbishment project. Four innovative playground designs have been created by different playground equipment suppliers, inspired by the feedback gathered in June 2024. Now, it's time for residents to have their say and vote for their favourite design.
A public survey is now open, giving the community the opportunity to choose which design they believe best suits Castle Park and meets the needs of local children and families. The full playground designs can be viewed here. The deadline for responses is Tuesday, 6 May.
In addition to the online survey, residents can explore the designs in person during a series of sessions at the Castle Park playground in the Easter school holidays. These consultations will provide a great opportunity to review the proposals up close and speak directly with council staff about the different designs. The sessions will take place on Saturday 12 April, Monday 14 April, and Wednesday 16 April, from 11am until 2pm. To ensure we also capture the voices of younger residents, the council has also visited local schools to gather feedback directly from pupils.
Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure, said: “We are thrilled to reach this exciting stage of the playground refurbishment and to present these four fantastic design options. The community’s input will help shape a much-loved space for children to play and families to enjoy for years to come. I encourage everyone to take part in the vote and help us create something truly special for Castle Park.”
The new playground, supported by s106 developer contributions, is scheduled for construction in winter 2025, with an expected opening in early 2026. View the full playground designs and access the survey here.
