Families are invited to step into a world of legends, knights, and dragons this May Half Term as Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum unveil an exciting line-up of activities designed to spark imaginations and bring history to life.
From family-friendly Castle tours to hands-on experiences in the Armoury, young visitors can get up close with history and listen to fairy-tale storytelling sessions. Children can also enjoy a Knights & Dragons Trail, following fun clues through the Castle’s historic walls.
Over at Hollytrees Museum, the past comes to life with Secrets Below Stairs, where families can meet a costumed servant and discover the hidden stories of those who lived and worked in the grand Georgian home.
Cllr Natalie Sommers, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Heritage and Public Protection at Colchester City Council said: “We’re thrilled to welcome families to Colchester Castle this Half Term for a programme packed with storytelling, hands-on discovery, and historical fun. With activities suitable for all ages, it’s a brilliant opportunity to explore one of Colchester’s most iconic landmarks in an exciting and engaging way.”
Visitors are encouraged to pre-book tickets in advance for the best prices. For even more value, families can upgrade to a Museum Pass, offering unlimited visits to Colchester’s heritage sites for a whole year.
May Half Term activities run throughout the school holiday from 24 May–1 June.
