Easter at Colchester Museums: Space Adventures & Creative Fun for the Whole Family
This Easter, Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum are offering a range of exciting, family-friendly events that promise to make your Easter holiday unforgettable! From cosmic adventures to creative Easter crafts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Blast off into space with our Cosmic Castle: Space Day of Discovery at Colchester Castle where the whole family can dive into the wonders of the cosmos with space themed activities, talks and interactive fun.
As evening falls and the stars come out, return to the Castle to enjoy our special Evening of Space Discovery for an expert talk craft and, weather permitting, gaze at the stars/planets through a telescope from the Castle roof. An enchanting evening of discovery where you can join us to explore the wonders of the universe.
For yoga lovers, book our special Yoga under Mars, yoga session on the 17 April 1 and 8 May and get ready to breathe, stretch and connect to the cosmos against the historic backdrop of the Castle, but hurry as its selling fast!
These events are inspired by Luke Jerram’s stunning touring artwork, Mars, currently on display at the Castle until May 9. Entry to Mars is included with Castle admission, so whether you're attending an event or exploring the Castle's many treasures and exhibits, you can experience this awe-inspiring installation that brings the mysterious Red Planet to life.
For the younger members of the family explore their creative side with a series of Springtime crafting sessions at Hollytrees Museum. These sessions are free after museum admission, and you can choose between Easter Cards one week and Spring Animals the next. Perfect for all ages, these sessions are a great way to celebrate the joys of spring and add a little handmade cheer to your home.
For the last Easter flourish join us for a Tree of Life Wreath Making Workshop at the Castle Museum on the 26 April and bring the beauty of spring to your door. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned crafter this workshop will help you create a one-of-a-kind springtime decoration for your home.
Cllr Natalie Sommers, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Heritage and Public Protection said, “We’re thrilled to offer an exciting range of family-friendly events this Easter at Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum. From space adventures and crafting fun to yoga under Mars, there’s something for everyone. Join us for a memorable few weeks filled with discovery, creativity, and the magic of spring!”
