Explore Colchester’s hidden history for free this weekend!

This year, Heritage Open Days is set to open the doors to over forty historic properties across Colchester for FREE. For ten days from Friday, 6 to Sunday, 15 September, historic venues will be opening their doors to the public across Colchester to join in with the national Heritage Open Days festival organised by The National Trust.

The city of Colchester and the surrounding area have 45 buildings and events of significant historical and architectural interest lined up. From Roman archaeological sites in Colchester to a Second World War airbase at Boxted, there is something for everyone.

On Saturday 14 September, Colchester Castle and Hollytrees Museum will also be joining in the celebrations and opening their doors for FREE.

Councillor Natalie Sommers, Communities, Heritage and Public Protection, said: “Heritage Open Days provide an exceptional opportunity to explore fascinating sites and buildings that are rarely accessible to the public, offering a unique window into the stories that have shaped our city. I encourage everyone to take part in this fantastic free event and connect with the incredible heritage that makes Colchester so special.”
