Colchester residents can now glimpse into the future through a new state-of-the-art video experience, which showcases the nearly £12 million redevelopment of the city’s St Botolph’s Circus.

It offers a superb opportunity to see one of Colchester's key gateways, unveiling a transformation that will shape the city for decades to come.

More than 2,000 locals have played a key role in making this work, following a consultation by Essex County and Colchester City councils.

Working as Team Colchester, the councils invite viewers to witness how St Botolph's Circus will be reborn into a bustling hub.

New plaza areas will be created through contemporary design and architecture, bringing together commerce, community and connectivity, while respecting the city’s wonderful history.

This video also emphasises accessibility and the need to find a balance between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The scheme aims to rejuvenate the area while integrating it with the city centre.

Councillor Kevin Bentley, Leader of Essex County Council, said: “I’m thrilled that thanks to Team Colchester people can now enjoy a detailed look into the future of St Botolph’s Circus. We have listened to the people and brought their ideas to life. I am proud of our commitment to Colchester. From St Botolph’s Circus to the £120 million package to transform the city’s transport links, we are unified and committed in meeting the community’s needs for today and for the decades to come.”

Councillor David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “This fabulous 'fly-through' video marks a pivotal moment in our journey to revitalise St Botolph’s Circus. This preview offers a remarkable glimpse of the exciting future ahead, sparking anticipation for the grand unveiling and what will follow. Team Colchester's joint aim is to create a gateway to the city in which we can all take pride.”

Beyond St Botolph’s Circus, the redevelopment paves the way for an array of transformative projects. This includes plans for a travel interchange and a heritage walking route leading from St Botolph’s Circus to Colchester Castle. These aim to boost visitors to the area so they can explore the city's rich history.
The redevelopment will also complement ongoing work for Colchester’s rapid transit system. This will provide fast, regular public transport services across the city and link key destinations.
