Colchester Youth Festival offers free activities this summer!

PUBLISHED: 7 August 2024

On 20 August, Colchester Youth Festival will be taking place in various spots across Colchester, offering free activities to young people such as axe throwing, gaming and art. The festival aims to encourage the younger generation to try new things, meet like-minded people and provide access to useful information and advice.

The Colchester Community Safety Partnership (CSP), a partnership of Colchester City Council, Essex Police and many others, are hoping the event will engage young people in some of the great places and activities Colchester has to offer and encourage them to be part of a community whilst having fun. All activities are free and open to all to turn up and take part in on the day, making this an event not to be missed!

The following activities will be available:
  • Football, dodgeball, tennis, and gym sessions, as well as the chance to record in a recording studio with partner Changing Lives at their premises on Crouch Street (9am – 5pm).
  • Axe throwing, gaming and other activities at Urban Xtreme (9am – 6pm).
  • Karate, kickboxing and boxing with partner inspire2gether at SD School of Martial Arts (10am – 1pm).
  • Parkour sessions with Team Kinetix at Castle Park (11am – 4pm).
  • Skateboarding with Dry Skate Project and One2One Basketball sessions at Firstsite’s premises (From 11am).
  • Art sessions with Young Kommunity Art (YAK) at Firstsite’s premises (1pm – 4pm).
  • Information on music production, podcasting, gaming and technology at the Youth Unity Bus near the Town Hall (9am – 1pm).
Cllr Mark Cory, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Resources, said: “I’m proud to see such excellent initiatives aimed at the younger generation launched in the city. Events such as these really do help young people find their passions and a sense of belonging, which is incredibly important.
“We hope to see many young people taking part in all the free activities being offered across the city. A huge thanks to our partners for all their hard work and dedication.”

The event will take place on 20 August in various locations across Colchester city centre. Please follow this link for more information on activities and to check when and where specific activities are taking place.
