Discover an Exciting Summer at Colchester Museums!

Colchester Museums are thrilled to announce a summer filled with exciting activities and events for visitors of all ages across its three city centre museums; Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum, and the Natural History Museum.

Highlights at the Castle include the stunning Gaia artwork, planet worksheet and trails, late opening and a rather special space themed day on the 10 August.

Gaia at Colchester Castle: From 19 July Colchester Castle will host Gaia, a breathtaking six-meter diameter artwork by renowned artist Luke Jerram. This immersive installation features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth, offering visitors a unique perspective on our planet's beauty. Gaia's presence at the Castle provides an awe-inspiring backdrop for summer activities.

Space Trails and Planet Earth Worksheet
Inspired by Gaia, visitors to the Castle can enjoy a fun space-themed trail running through the museum for just £5 to educate and inspire youngsters about our world. Across the road at the Natural History Museum children can learn more about our planet with a fun free worksheet!

Colchester Castle Space Day
Join us for a celebration of all things space on the 10 August. Dive into the wonders of the cosmos with space themed activities, talks and interactive fun. Engage with experts from Tiptree Stargazers and enjoy captivating talks from experts and enthusiasts who will share their insights and passion for all things space. This special event will also feature a range of space-themed activities, workshops, and interactive fun!

And that’s not all, in addition to the Castle’s many displays and interactive exhibits summer fun can be had at; Hollytrees Museum: Explore the rich history of Colchester with interactive exhibits and family-friendly activities that bring the past to life. Natural History Museum: Discover the wonders of the natural world with engaging displays, including local wildlife, geology, and more.
