An exciting community cycle pop-up event will be landing in Tiptree to celebrate the RideLondon, the world’s greatest festival of cycling, arriving in Colchester.
Residents and visitors will be able to drop into Wilkin and Son tea room car park from 10am – 2pm on Friday 27 May, for a range of cycle related activities and information.
This will help to mark the Ride London Classique’s first stage traveling through the south of the borough, featuring some of the world’s best female cyclists.
The pop-up event will launch the second round of Colchester Borough Council’s hugely successful Community Cycle project, where residents can donate their unused bikes, to be refurbished and used by local community groups.
There will be a drop off point there on the day, and anyone who donates a bike will receive a voucher for a FREE cream tea, to redeem that day at the iconic Wilkin and Son tea room!
The Community Cycle project is funded by the Active Essex ‘Find Your Active fund’ and is made possible by the support of partners En-form, Route 51 and Colchester Anti Loo Roll Brigade.
Lucie Breadman, Colchester Borough Council Assistant Director for Communities said: “We are delighted the Ride London Classique race is heading to our borough. This pop up event will help celebrate it’s arrival and help provide information and assistance for anyone who is thinking about reaping the benefits of getting on their bike more.
“I would encourage anyone who has an unused bike to pop it into the event on the day. This will really make a difference to someone in need and you will even get a free cream tea on the day to say thank you!”
Dr Bike, the professional cycle maintenance service run by En-Form, will offer free cycle checks for anyone who drops in on the day and free safety equipment will be given out.
Continuing the cycle theme, the brilliant e-cargo bike team will be on hand with a host of electric cargo bikes. They will be available to discuss the benefits and advantages and even give people the opportunity to try one out.
In addition to this, the Council’s CAReless pollution team will be in attendance, to give out information and advice about practical things we can all do to help improve air quality in the borough.
