Join Colchester Museums for a school day like no other. Head to Museum School and whether your class is studying the Romans or the Victorians, enjoy a day of immersive history, designed to inspire and engage students.
Colchester Museums school visits take place between 10am – 2pm and are held at either Colchester Castle or Hollytrees Museum, Colchester. The day includes sessions led by museum staff, class teachers and free time to explore the museums galleries, interactive exhibits and of course the gift shops!
At Colchester Castle, children can explore hidden parts of the Castle as a guide takes you back in time to unlock the secrets of the past. Learn more about the lives of the people of Colchester and how they differ from life today. Interactive exhibits include Iron Age Roundhouse and Roman villa areas, an interactive Roman chariot racing game and you can even have a go at firing a Roman Ballista!
At Hollytrees Museum, life in Victorian Colchester is explored. Learn more about the status, fashion and materials associated with Victorian life, discover what was involved in the running of a home in Victorian times, and enjoy dressing up and interactive learning.
Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business and Heritage for Colchester Borough Council said: “The museum team can’t wait to welcome new students to its historical buildings. To find out more about these sessions and how to book, please head to the Colchester Museums website and register your interest. A member of the team will then contact you to plan your visit.”
