Local residents and users of the Eudo Road Tennis Centre, which is managed as part of Colchester Borough Council’s Sport and Leisure Services, are to be consulted on the facility’s future, following notice that the council is seeking to lease part of the site.
In a letter being sent to interested parties, the council, acting through its commercial trading arm Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd, outlines its intention to seek expressions of interest to develop and operate a sports facility on a section of the existing tennis centre.
Any successful proposal, it explains, would be required to complement the existing clubhouse and tennis provision made up of six hard courts at the front of the site and six grass courts at the rear. These will be retained, as will existing rights of way and on-site parking provision.
Cllr Paul Dundas, Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “We want to ensure the public has a say in the future of the Eudo Road Tennis Centre.
“We believe any development plans should complement and not replace existing facilities and welcome your views to help ensure it can continue to thrive as a site for sport and recreation.”
The public has until 5pm on 7 February 2022 to comment on the plans.
